GREENACRES, Fla. (CBS12) — For nearly two decades this week’s ‘Hometown Hero’ has been guiding teenagers in Palm Beach County down a path to reach their full potential by helping them build their self-esteem.
It’s a mission close to Shawn Ho-Hing-King’s heart.
“I grew up in a household with 14 siblings and lost my mom when I was 10,” Ho-Hing-King says, adding that losing her mother at a young age forced her to grow up quickly. “I really developed the skills of trying to take care of myself.”
But the experience also opened her eyes to the importance of an adults support in shaping a future, and it fueled the vision for her nonprofit organization ‘Talented Teen Club,' which she officially started in 2005https://cbs12.com/news/morning-show/shawn-ho-hing-king-hometown-hero-building-self-esteem-palm-beach-county-teenagers-tale
